Album Notes | Track Listing

One of the great things about life is that, every once in a while, you may discover a real treasure. This is one of those times.

The Mustangs were an all-girl country rock group based out of Los Angeles, California, that enjoyed a highly successful seven-year run from the late 80s through the early 90s. During that time they produced an extraordinary body of work, some of which is presented here.

The group was formed in 1987. Founding members included (in alphabetical order) Sherry Rayn Barnett, lead guitar; Ruth Gunderson, bass; Mary Landers, keyboards; Suzanna Spring, guitar; and Kathi Taylor, drums and percussion. All members contributed their vocal talents as well, with leads primarily shared between Suzanna and Mary. Ruth left the group in 1988, and was replaced by Mary Vee. Mary Landers left in early 1990 and was not replaced. Mary Vee left in 1991 and was replaced by Holly Montgomery. Despite these personnel changes, core members Sherry, Suzanna and Kathi held the group together and continued to record and perform.

During their seven-year run The Mustangs toured extensively in the western United States, and toured Europe three times. Highlights included appearances at the famed Palomino Club, the Los Angeles Country Fest, SXSW (South By Southwest), the Powerhaus in London, the Roskilde Music Festival in Denmark, and the International Country Music Festival in Zurich. In 1988 the group was selected as finalists in the Marlboro Marlboro Music Competition, and later appeared on the NBC network TV show "Throb." Nominated by the California Country Music Association as "Vocal Group of the Year," the Mustangs were featured performers at the Jimmy Dale Gilmore & Friends Show in Austin. In addition, during their career they shared the stage with such notables as T. Graham Brown, Shenandoah, Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, Bill Monroe, Holly Dunn and Boy Howdy, to name but a few.

Sherry currently lives in Los Angeles, where she is a fantastic freelance music photographer and still performs on occasion (http://www.sherrybarnettphotography.com). Suzanna resides in Nashville, where she continues to write, record and perform. She has been a staff writer for EMI and Blue Water Music, and is a designer and graphic arts instructor at Vanderbilt University (http://www.suzannaspring.com). Kathi lives in South Boston, MA, is an accomplished fine artist (http://www.kathitaylor.com), and is percussionist and vocalist for Orpheus Reborn.
